Do I Need To Sign The OBC Or EWS Certificate Proforma?

The certificate proforma available on the CAT website is a prescribed format and should not be treated as a separate form that you simply sign yourself. Your actual certificate needs to contain the information and authentication required by the CAT guidelines.

Pay particular attention to the certificate's issue date, issuing authority, and other category-specific requirements. If you are applying under OBC-NCL or EWS, arrange the relevant current-year documentation well before the admission stage.

Will A State-Issued OBC Certificate Work?

A state-issued certificate can be acceptable if your caste is included in the relevant Central OBC list and the certificate meets the requirements specified for CAT. Being recognised only under a state-level OBC list is not sufficient for Central institutions such as the IIMs.

Before selecting OBC-NCL in the application, check your caste against the applicable Central list and ensure that your certificate follows the prescribed format.

Can I Use Last Year's EWS Or OBC-NCL Certificate?

If the institution does not publish one, contact the relevant authority and obtain written clarification before entering the percentage in your CAT application.

Which Graduation Year Should I Enter If I Had A Backlog?

Your graduation year should reflect when you actually completed the requirements for the degree. If a backlog was cleared later, use the year supported by your final academic records rather than simply entering the original batch year.

A full-time apprenticeship completed after graduation may count as work experience when it meets the relevant requirements and can be supported by appropriate documents.

However, an internship or training programme that forms part of your academic curriculum is treated differently. Check whether the experience was completed after graduation and whether you have documentation confirming the role and duration.

What If My Company Does Not Provide PF?

The absence of PF does not automatically mean that every employment claim is invalid. The circumstances of the employer and the applicable employment requirements matter.

The CAT application is primarily used to collect information required for the examination and subsequent selection process. It may not provide separate fields for every certification, internship, extracurricular activity, or professional achievement.
